Gov. Walz's Budget Proposal Includes Direct Checks To Minnesotans
According to the governor's office, more than 2.5 million Minnesota households would receive a check under his proposal.
ST. PAUL, MN — In announcing his 2023 budget proposal Tuesday, Gov. Tim Walz released his plan for direct checks to Minnesotan families.
Under Walz's proposal, the state would send back nearly $4 billion of the state’s historic $17.6 billion surplus. Depending on their income, Minnesotan families could receive up to $2,600.
These direct payments would be structured as an advanced income tax credit:

- Couples with a combined income below $150,000 would receive $2,000
- Single filers making less than $75,000 would receive $1,000
Minnesotans could also qualify for an additional $200 for each dependent, but only up to three dependents.
