TWIN CITIES, MN — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Twin Cities metro area. A winter storm warning has been issued for southeast Minnesota.
Snow is expected to start falling in the metro Wednesday night around 9 p.m. and will continue throughout most of Thursday. Prepare for a messy Thursday morning commute.
Up to 6 inches of snow could fall in the Twin Cities, with higher totals in southern Minnesota.

"Snow will begin to push north over the Interstate 90 corridor in southern Minnesota this evening, spreading northeast overnight through Thursday morning," the NWS said.
"The snow is likely to be heaviest overnight, with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible at times across southern Minnesota through western Wisconsin.

Wednesday: Cloudy, with a high near 30. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northeast in the morning.
Wednesday Night: Snow, mainly after 9pm. The snow could be heavy at times. Patchy fog before 2am, then areas of fog after 5am. Areas of freezing fog between 3am and 4am. Low around 26. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Thursday: Snow, mainly before noon. Patchy fog between 7am and noon. High near 31. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Thursday Night: Cloudy, with a low around 18. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 24. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Southwest wind around 10 mph.
