‘If You Can’t Breathe, Nothing Else Matters'

On May 10, the Minnesota community will come together to celebrate lung cancer survivors and fund cutting-edge research for the American Lung Association in Minnesota’s LUNG FORCE Oxygen Ball.

The need for increased lung cancer awareness and research funding is more important than ever. In fact, every five minutes, a woman in the U.S. is told that she has lung cancer and one in four will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetimes. Here in Minnesota, this year there will be an estimated 3,600 people diagnosed with lung cancer and more than 2,000 will succumb to the disease.

“Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of both men and women, so fighting to end this terrible disease must be a collaborative effort,” said Missi Arens, the executive director for the Lung Association. “Each year, it is truly inspiring to see the community come together to fight lung cancer. Events like the Oxygen Ball help us fund life-saving lung cancer research, local educational programs to assist people with lung disease and free programs to help Minnesotans quit smoking.”

The Oxygen Ball, held at the International Square Marketplace in Minneapolis, is an eclectic and exciting events that features a cocktail reception, silent auction, live auction and live music by local band Boogie Wonderland. Almost 90 cents of every dollar raised will go to the Lung Association’s programs and services, including research, advocacy and public health education.
