Indigenous Peoples Day: What's Open, Closed In Minneapolis

The city of Minneapolis ended "Columbus Day" in 2014 and instead uses the day to honor Native Americans.

MINNEAPOLIS — All Minneapolis city government offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9, in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day. The city of Minneapolis ended "Columbus Day" in 2014 and instead uses the day to honor Native Americans.

Closures include Minneapolis 311, the Minneapolis Service Center, the Minneapolis Early Vote Center, and the Solid Waste and Recycling customer service office.

The city's parking meters will also not be in effect. City offices and meters will resume regular business hours on Tuesday.

The city's regular garbage and recycling pick-up schedule will not be changed and will remain in effect on Monday.

The U.S. Postal Service and may other county, state, and federal government offices will also be closed for the holiday.

Minneapolis police and fire emergency services, and 911, will be open as normal. Private metered parking restrictions may be in effect.

Most retail stores will also remain open.
