Authorities were initially unsure of the identity of any suspects in the case, which prompted the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of the deadly attack.

The Menomonie Police Department said in November that it had identified a suspect in the case, but said investigators had not found any evidence that would suggest the death of Alnahdi was a hate crime.
