Minneapolis Fire PTSD leave drives '$12,000-a-day' overtime strain; City leaders rethink agency budget (kstp.com) — Minneapolis residents could see major changes to the fire department's budget as PTSD-related leave drives overtime costs to about $12,000 a day and pushes the agency $6.2 million over budget. City leaders are weighing a 2027 plan that boosts overtime funding, seeks a federal SAFER grant to hire more firefighters, and slightly expands 911 mental health support before the council's final budget vote.

'We can't basically afford it': Minneapolis residents react to proposed tax hike, budget (fox9.com) — Minneapolis homeowners could see property taxes jump 11.3% under Mayor Jacob Frey's proposed budget, adding more than $400 a year for the average household. At a Board of Estimate and Taxation meeting, residents warned they're already stretched thin, while others urged shifting more money to parks as city leaders work to close a $60 million gap.
   

5. Minneapolis 11-year-old shreds State Fair stage alongside Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (fox9.com) — An 11-year-old Minneapolis guitarist just wowed thousands at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand, performing alongside hometown legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Sixth-grader Mateo Castillo-Bonde, nicknamed "Minneapolis Mateo," honored late guitarist Jellybean Johnson with a note-perfect "Black Cat" solo and says he hopes his playing inspires other kids to put down their screens and create.
