Stoel Rives Partner Talks Fundamental Tax Reform Under the Trump Administration

Gregory F. Jenner discusses proposed federal tax reform with Twin Cities' business leaders

MINNEAPOLIS (May 2017) - Stoel Rives tax partner Gregory F. Jenner spoke to Minneapolis business leaders at the Westin Minneapolis on May 16 at an event sponsored by Stoel Rives. With 10 years combined experienced at the Treasury Department and on Capitol Hill, Jenner shared his insights and experience in legislative, tax policy, and budget processes.

During the discussion, Jenner reflected on the 1986 tax reform effort and the lessons that can be drawn from that successful effort. He also explained the various tax plans under consideration, as well as the political and procedural obstacles facing the Congress. You can read more of Jenner’s analysis in his special report, “Rebooting the Tax Code: The Musings of an ’86 Act Insider.”

Jenner began his time in Washington as Tax Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, where he was one of the authors of the Tax Reform Act of 1986. He later served twice at the Treasury Department, first as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary (Tax Policy) and later as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy and Acting Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy.
