Thunderstorms Could Disrupt July 4 Fireworks Shows: MN Weather

TWIN CITIES, MN — Showers and thunderstorms could put a damper on July 4 celebrations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area this year.

Storms are expected Monday morning and will stick through the evening.

"Temperatures warm through the weekend, with above normal temperatures for Sunday and Independence Day," the National Weather Service said.

"Saturday will see a chance for showers and storms in western and central Minnesota. The better chance for showers and storms will arrive on the 4th during the evening."

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 83. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west northwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight.

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Independence Day: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
