As their elderly father became more frail, Deb M’s extended family looked to her, as the daughter, to coordinate help to meet all of his needs. “At some point, Dad was taking all of my time, all of my energy. I just couldn’t do it any more,” Deb comments. Her caregiver coach, through Eldercare Partners, introduced her to an innovative, free web-based program, CareNextion.org. Deb was able to set up an online care team of friends and family members so that help can easily be organized to provide her father with meals, visits, rides to the doctor, grocery shopping, and other needed tasks. The online journal and calendar features also keep all family members, including those in Japan and Arkansas, informed of how their father (and grandfather) is doing. Deb says, “It relieved me from caregiving the entire family….It was so hard before and it became so easy!”
In addition to the online care team tool, the free CareNextion.org site offers services, resources, and tips for caregivers. People can also access personalized help and get questions answered by email or by calling 612-770-7005. Lists of specific services, by city, are now available on the website for many suburban Hennepin County communities.
