Skippers Win Five-Straight Games To Open Season; Shutout Buffalo

Minnetonka girls hockey remains undefeated; #1 in AA

The Minnetonka girls varsity hockey team remains undefeated on the season as the Skippers shutout Buffalo, 5-0, at the Pagel Activity Center on Tuesday night.

Laura Bowman recorded a hat trick for the home team with a power play goal in the second period and two more scores in the third period of the victory. Fellow forward Hadley Cookston logged the other two Skippers goals as part of a 45-shot attack on the Buffalo net. Minnetonka goaltender Julie Friend earned her second win of the year with 12 saves.

It was the first game back in the metro for Minnetonka, who had claimed back-to-back wins in Warroad and Roseau on Nov. 19 and 20.

Minnetonka now has nine days to savor its fifth win before the Skippers return to the ice on Thursday, Dec. 2  against visiting Irondale. Non-conference play continues through the month of December, including the South St. Paul Tournament beginning Dec. 30. Minnetonka opens the Lake Conference season against Wayzata on Jan. 4.
