ACCELERATE NORTHFIELD seeks tutors for K-8 students in Northfield

Academic support tutors are directed into Northfield's three elementary schools and Northfield Middle School through

Second semester classes in Northfield Public Schools begin in January. So, to get the district’s students off to a good start in the second half of the school years, teachers are requesting the Northfield community’s help by way of academic support tutors.
More than 70 volunteer and college work-study tutoring opportunities are available at Nortfield’s three elementary schools (Bridgewater, Greenvale Park and Spring Creek) and Northfield Middle School.

Community members can sign up for tutor opportunities through ACCELERATE NORTHFIELD, which direct tutors into classrooms.

There is no teaching or torturing experience needed to be an ACCELERATE NORTHFIELD tutor. The only requirement is possessing a desire to help students.

The first step for would-be tutors to take is to complete an online version of the MInnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension background check, which is administered free of charge to applicants through the Northfield school district. Once applicants receive notice of their background check approval, they receive instructions on how to sign up for tutor opportunities.

They review the opportunities on a spreadsheet linked to ACCELERATE’s website (www.acceleratenorthfield.org), then complete an online registration form. Once the opportunity placement is confirmed, an email is sent to the tutor and the teacher who requested a tutor.
