Man Injured After Diving Into Shallow Water Near Northfield
Authorities say the condition of the 48-year-old Faribault man is unknown.

RICE COUNTY, MN — The condition of a Faribault man is unknown after he dove into shallow water Tuesday evening. Police say he entered a lake from his boat to work on the motor that quit running.
On Tuesday just after 8:30 p.m., Rice County deputies and water patrol, as well as Northfield fire crews, were dispatched to Fox Lake on a report of an injured person.
Responders found the victim being attended to by other people near a boat about 100 yards from shore. Emergency crews assisted in rescuing Daniel Varness, 48, from the water.

Varness was airlifted to a trauma center. He suffered an upper body injury, according to authorities.
