Northfield council moves away from data center ban, toward tiered regulation (southernminn.com) — Northfield's City Council has unanimously reduced the required distance between data centers and parks or trails from about three-quarters of a mile to 200 feet, while ordering staff to design a tiered regulatory system addressing water, noise, and other impacts. After extensive public opposition and discussion, councilors emphasized regulation over prohibition, aiming to balance tax base, environmental concerns, and equity for Northfield residents.

Living Treasure in the Arts award revived after commission dissolution (southernminn.com) — Northfield artists and supporters are reviving the Living Treasure in the Arts award after the city dissolved its Arts and Culture Commission, and nominations are open until Oct. 15. Past recipients, with help from Northfield Shares and the Arts Guild, will select honorees who have long strengthened Northfield's cultural life through teaching, performance, and community work, with public celebrations planned into next year.
