Info on Mary’s kind of leukemia:

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow — the spongy tissue inside bones where blood cells are made. The word "acute" in acute myelogenous leukemia denotes the disease's rapid progression. It's called myelogenous (MI-uh-loj-uh-nus) leukemia because it affects a group of white blood cells called the myeloid cells, which normally develop into the various types of mature blood cells, such as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Diagnosed on June 7, she was at Region’s Hospital receiving chemo treatment three days later. From there she went to Mayo for more chemo and radiation to prep for a stem cell transplant, luckily she had a brother that was a 100 percent match. About 80 days later she was sent home, cancer free, waiting for the stem cell transplant to “take hold”. December bone marrow biopsy results brought her back for a chemo and stem cell boost over Christmas, but didn’t reverse the number of new leukemia cells. She went back for a fourth round of chemo and is currently waiting for another stem cell transplant from the same brother at the Transplant House in Rochester.
