Masters Class performance with Saint Thomas Academy senior Brock Carlson of Lake Elmo
The Saint Paul Piano Teachers Association has chosen Saint Thomas Academy senior Brock Carlson of Lake Elmo as one of four high school pianists in the Twin Cities to perform at a Masters Class on Saturday, March 29. Dr. Jessica Johnson, associate professor of piano and director of graduate studies in piano pedagogy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will preside over the class. Carlson will perform Sonata, Op. 2, No. 1 by Beethoven, the piece he submitted as his audition piece for the Masters Class.
The class will be held at Roseville Schmitt Music Auditorium on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1‐3pm.In a Masters Class, students perform for a distinguished guest instructor, who provides students direction on how to refine their performance for a live audience. The instructor teaches the audience as well as the performer about music selection and performance styles. Other class topics may include whole body alignment, whole brain processes as well as healthful piano technique and biomechanics.
Carlson is a student of Becky Heyn at the MacPhail School of Music.
