Oakdale Planning Commission to Consider Rezoning Former Par-3 Golf Course for High-Density Housing

High-density housing zoning would allow townhouses and apartments on the site.

The Oakdale Planning Commission is scheduled to ask for more time to review a request to rezone a defunct par-3 golf course and miniature golf course on the north side of town at its meeting Thursday, March 3.

City staff has asked for more information on what the developer has planned for the site to determine if the area's public infrastructure could meet future demand, according to a staff report. The commission would then do a full review of the request at its April 7 meeting, Community Development Specialist Logan Martin said in an e-mail.

The owner of the course—which is located southeast of the intersection of Hadley and Century avenues—is asking the commission to change its zoning to high density housing, according to a staff report.

Currently, the site is zoned for a planned unit development, which is more flexible than other types of zoning because it allows for different land uses within one site, but it also gives the City Council more discretion to reject or require changes to a plan.

The property owner, Oakdale Par 3 LLC, is asking that the site be re-zoned to R-5 High Density Housing, which allows multi-family structures such as townhouses, four-family housing, apartments and other structures with three or more housing units.

The site, located at 5585 Golfview Ave., is currently for sale for $750,000, according to a listing from RE/MAX Advantage Plus. The site includes a 2,400 square-foot clubhouse, a nine-hole par 3 golf course and an 18-hole miniature golf course, according to the listing.
