Now the small town readied for a violent showdown (pineandlakes.com) — A century ago, Ortonville briefly became a flashpoint when hundreds of local businessmen armed themselves and forced out a large group of Industrial Workers of the World members during a tense 1916 labor season. That confrontation was part of a wider wave of Wobbly-related unrest that also fueled fears and near-violence in small towns across North Dakota and Minnesota.
