The Plymouth Library overflowed with autumn light and brilliant colors and rich sound on Saturday, November 2, in a community celebration of the Hindu festival of Diwali. World-renowned veena player Nirmala Rajasekar, joined by percussionists Sriram Natarajan and Balaji Chandran, as well as a dozen students from Rajasekar’s Naadha Rasa Center for Music, performed Carnatic music in the classical style and shared the traditional story of “The Lion and the Rabbit” from the Panchatantra (fables from ancient India), involving the audience of 118 in the musical storytelling of this premiere of Rajasekar’s composition. The Diwali celebration was generously sponsored by the Friends of the Plymouth Library.
