“This is a benefit to residents because it is a free, convenient place to drop of waste oil, which comes from when people change the oil in their cars,” said Plymouth Environmental Education Coordinator Margie Vigoren. “People are often looking for someplace to drop off their waste oil and this is a location that is right in Plymouth and it is available 24-7.”
“It is illegal to dispose of waste oil in the garbage,” said Vigoren. “Of course, it is also illegal and very environmentally damaging to dispose of it on the ground or in the storm sewer.”

It costs the city nothing as it simply provides the 24-hour availability of the site at the Maintenance Facility while Eastside provides the container, transportation and re-processing of the waste product into fuel for heaters and asphalt plants.
The city receives half of the reprocessed fuel back to use in oil burner that heats the Maintenance Facility. Used oil filters and antifreeze can also be dropped off, but containers for oil and antifreeze cannot be left at the site.
Eastside Oil is sponsoring a grand opening picnic at the site from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sat., Sept. 17. The public is invited to enjoy lunch and some fun activities.
