Providence Academy Football Is State Bound
The Lions reached their first state tournament in school history Friday against Rockford

A fourth quarter comeback ensured the Providence Academy football team a spot in the state tournament.
The Lions reached state for the first time in school history on Friday with a 15-14 win over Rockford in the Section 5AAA championship game. PA will face Perham on Nov. 12 at St. Cloud State University in the Class 3A quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
Marshall Klitzke’s 20-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter was the difference, giving PA a one-point win.

A defensive battle for three quarters, Providence Academy led 3-0 at halftime after Sean Mostrom’s 26-yard field goal. Rockford battled back in the third, scoring a touchdown and missing a two-point conversion attempt to take a 6-3 lead.
In the fourth, both teams began finding the end zone. PA (9-2) scored on a six-yard touchdown run by Jackson Canfield, and after an unsuccessful two-point conversion the Lions led 9-6.

Rockford (5-6) came right back, scoring on a 46-yard pass from Brock Deering to Nick Monssen to take a 14-6 lead. Josh Green ran in the two-point conversion.
But that set the stage for Klitzke’s touchdown run, securing a spot at state for the Lions.
Perham (8-3) is coming off a 10-3 win over Pequot Lakes in the Section 8AAA championship. The Yellowjackets have won six straight games dating back to a 28-27 overtime win over Thief River Falls on Oct. 7.
