Reports: School Bus Struck 2 Wayzata High Runners

One of the two track team members went to the hospital with a concussion and leg injury, according to several media outlets.

A school bus struck two members of the Wayzata High School track team as they jogged at about 3:30 p.m. Monday near Plymouth Creek Elementary, according to news reports.

Emergency responders found one of the students under the bus, WCCO reported, and he was taken to North Memorial Hospital where his mother said doctors were to operate on his leg. She also told WCCO her son had suffered a concussion.

Those injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, a Wayzata School District spokesperson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and the other student's injuries were minor. Middle schoolers riding on the bus were not hurt, KARE 11 reported.

It was not immediately clear whether the weather played a role or if the bus driver was at fault. No citations have been issued at this time.

The teens were struck near Vicksburg Lane and 41st Avenue N. in Plymouth, the Star Tribune reported, citing a Wayzata schools spokesperson.

“Several cars were stopped in one lane, and, unfortunately, the school bus went down the other lane and didn’t not stop, or yield to the pedestrians,” Plymouth Police Capt. Craig Lindman told WCCO.
