Update on Plymouth Incident: Bus Driver Cited, Wayzata Runner Recovering, Reports Says
Vicksburg Lane is 'too hard to cross the way it is,' parent tells 12 News.
A Wayzata High School track team member is recovering from surgery to repair a broken leg and Plymouth police cited the driver of the school bus that struck him Monday, according to an update on the incident by 12 News.
The student, who police found with his leg under the front right wheel of the bus, was recovering at North Memorial Hospital, according to the report at twelve.tv.

The bus' side mirror struck another member of the team, but he sustained only minor injuries, police told Northwest Community Television, and the middle school students on the bus were not hurt.
The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Monday at 41st Avenue N. and Vicksburg Lane in Plymouth, near Plymouth Creek Elementary. About a dozen runners were crossing Vicksburg, the report said, citing police, who continue to investigate.

Plymouth Police Capt. Craig Lindman told 12 News the bus driver was traveling north in the right lane of Vicksburg Lane "and didn't see the runners because of the school buses and other vehicles stopped in the left lane." Police cited the bus driver for failing to drive with due care.
Beth Corning, a Plymouth Creek Elementary parent, told 12 News she has seen close calls along Vicksburg when drivers do not pay attention to the pedestrian-crossing signs. She said she knows that the Wayzata High School track team crosses there but "it's too hard to cross that street the way that it is."
Wayzata High School's athletic director said school authorites are also review the incident, according to the report.
Past Incidents
Vicksburg Lane at 57th Avenue N. was the site of a school bus crash with a passenger vehicle in April 2012 that left the car's two occupants injured but did not harm the students on the bus.
A Metropolitan Transportation Network school bus driver transporting lost his job in November 2012 after he pulled over and asked a Robbinsdale Middle School student to retrieve something from the side of the road that turned out to be a gun.
