Author Of Gun Control Bills Says She Received Death Threat

Rep. Linda Slocum says she's open to a healthy debate over gun control but will not tolerate rudeness and death threats.

RICHFIELD, MN — A lawmaker who introduced major gun control initiatives in the Minnesota House of Representatives last month says she was the target of a death threat. Linda Slocum, of Richfield, is an author of HF 1669 — which would require criminal background checks for all gun sales — and HF 1605, which would allow gun violence protective orders.

Slocum has received thousands of messages since introducing the two bills, but she said one man's voicemail and email scared her.

"He threatened to kill me," Slocum told KMSP. She described the man's message as "I have my gun and I’m ready to come and get you." She said it was "very threatening."

A Minnesota State Patrol report of the voicemail described it as "vulgar at best," according to the Pioneer Press. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the messages.

Slocum introduced new gun control legislation after the massacre at a school in Florida last month. She says she's open to a healthy debate over gun control but will not tolerate rudeness and death threats.
