MnDOT’s Debra Bauer Retires After 26 Years

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Debra Bauer retired from the Minnesota Department of Transportation on July 11, after 26 years of state service.

Deb began working for the state in 1992, starting out in bridge design in St. Paul. In 1995, Deb moved to District 2 based in Bemidji, and served roles in surveys, computer-aided design and drafting, pre-design and design.

She finished her career as an engineering specialist senior.

One of Deb’s most memorable moments while working for MnDOT was digging through five feet of snow to find a survey marker, and then having to dig steps to get out of the hole. She said it’s the people that make a workplace great and her co-workers are what she’ll miss most about her job.

District 2 comprises more than 1,800 miles of state highways across 14 counties, and employs approximately 220 people to handle snow and ice control, roadway construction, traffic, land acquisition, business operations, planning, design and other transportation-related duties.
