PHOTOS: Holy Angels Girls Lacrosse Drops Season Opener

It was a tale of two halves as Stars lead 4-3 at halftime before losing by 11-4 score to visiting Cretin-Derham Hall.

It was a rough start to the season for the Holy Angels girls lacrosse team as the Stars dropped the opening game of their spring campaign by a score of 11-4 to Cretin-Derham Hall under the teflon sky of the StarDome on Thursday afternoon.

The game was not without its highlights, as the Stars rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals to take a double-up lead in the latter stages of the first half.

Sophomore Mary Margaret Duffy recorded Holy Angels' first goal of the year and was followed on the scoresheet by classmate Jane Schumacher, freshman Cat Howell and senior co-captain Isabella Stewart.

Stewart's strike put the Stars up 4-2, yet it would prove to be her team's final goal of the day.

Cretin logged the final tally of the half as the teams went to the break with Holy Angels up 4-3, yet the Raiders owned the second half of play, firing home eight goals while holding the hosts scoreless to turn a tight game into the eventual 11-3 final.

The Stars will look to regroup with a Saturday afternoon scrimmage at Minnetonka High School before returning to game action at 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday when Owatonna visits Holy Angels, with Benilde-St. Margaret's scheduled to come calling next Friday in a 4:30 p.m. start.
