Richfield Girls Basketball, Boys Hockey Win Thursday

Spartans top Minneapolis Roosevelt, Simley. Beaudet takes 68th at state Nordic meet.

Thursday's limited sports schedule was a successful one for Richfield as the Spartans girls basketball and boys hockey teams both won at home after a Richfield High School (RHS) senior finished his Nordic ski campaign at state.

Nordic Ski: Beaudet 68th at state meet

Richfield senior wrapped up his high school Nordic ski career with a 68th-place finish at the state meet, held at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN.

Beaudet finished with a total pursuit time of 32 minutes, 55.5 seconds after compiling results of 15:25 in the freestyle and 17:30.5 in the classic races.

Girls Basketball: Richfield 80, Minneapolis Roosevelt 66

The improved to 18-4 on the season with an 80-66 non-conference victory against visiting Minneapolis Roosevelt.

led all scorers with 30 points as the Spartans took a 39-32 halftime lead en route to the 14-point win; Sierra Ford-Washington and Bryann Guyton logged 16 and 15 points, respectively, on the night.

Richfield, 8-3 in the Classic Suburban Conference (CSC), returns to circuit competition at 7 p.m. Friday night, hosting Mahtomedi.

Boys Hockey: Richfield 5, Simley 2

The Richfield boys hockey team won its second CSC contest of the season with a 5-2 defeat of Simley at the Richfield Ice Arena.

After trailing 1-0 in the first period, the Spartans scored five of the next six goals to surge to the victory as Mick Dhein notched two goals with Jack Stellon, Jon Hauri and Tyler Martinez chipped in one apiece.

Richfield, now 9-14-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the conference, hosts non-conference opponent North Branch at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Gymnastics: Tseng Qualifies for State on Vault, Joins Metz for Class AA Meet

at the Class AA state gymnastics meet next week after placing third on the vault in the Section 6AA individual finals on Wednesday night at Hopkins High School.

Tseng and Metz will both take part in the individual Class AA state competition at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26.

Metz had qualified for state with a runner-up finish in the sectional all-around competition, held last Saturday at RHS; she also took fourth place in 6AA in both vault and uneven bars
