Richfield Girls Soccer Team Suffers Close Loss to Henry Sibley
Spartan defense holds opponents to two goals, tying the fewest goals allowed this year, but still can't pull off win.
The hosted the Henry Sibley Warriors on Tuesday in their second to last regular season game.
The Spartan team hung tough with Sibley but could not maintain possession long enough to pose a significant threat to the Warrior goalie. They were outshot 26-7 by the Sibley squad.
In the first half, Lauren Ahern opened up the scoring for the Warriors, with a shot from short range. The Warriors consistently maintained possession of the ball and made Richfield play their best defense to keep the game within reach.

Late in the second half, with the score still 1-0, Richfield started to gain momentum offensively. But almost as quick as the momentum began to swing, Sibley countered one of Richfield's corner kicks with a breakaway play to Courtney Armborst who beat the goalie one-on-one to put the game out of reach for the Spartans.
Richfield (1-10) will host Minneapolis Washburn on Thursday for their last regular season game. The Section 3A tournament begins on Oct. 10.
