The following is the description of the event from the organizers:
Human trafficking creates multibillions in international trade annually and continues to be one of the fastest growing criminal industries. While undeniable a global phenomenon, the U.S., as one of the world's leading human trafficking importers, bears a special responsibility to combat this practice. Various treaties and laws have been enacted to prevent trafficking, but what more can be done to truly understand and combat the exploitation of victims. And how has Minnesota helped lead the nation to stronger, more victim-centered anti-trafficking legislation? On Nov. 3, Madeline Lohman of The Advocates for Human Rights will lead a discussion on the issues surrounding this worldwide and local problem.
The Advocates for Human Rights recently published a report that uncovered 17 incidents of labor trafficking in Minnesota involving 36 victims over the past five years. Lean more about that report here.
