Richfield Human Rights Commission Selects Ahlquist for Outstanding Citizen Award
Richfield resident Diane Ahlquist was chosen to receive the 2011 Gene and Mary Jacobsen Outstanding Citizen Award.
Richfield resident and community volunteer Diane Ahlquist was selected by the to receive the .
The award recognizes excellent community service and a commitment to human rights, as well as actions to better the community, according to Molly Darsow, commission chairwoman.
Ahlquist is a volunteer with VEAP, a community organization focused on helping neighbors in need, and also works as a receptionist with the organization and facilitates calls.
According to Shari DeBlieck, the VEAP Volunteer Director who sent the nomination, Ahlquist "enthusiastically and passionately demonstrates neighbors serving neighbors, which is a benchmark of VEAP."
The human rights commission will honor Ahlquist with a plaque at a reception later this year.
In addition, there was discussion regarding Richfield's . So far, while registration has been low, Darsow shared positive feedback the committee has received. More information will soon be available on the City of Richfield website. The registration forms are available for download on the website and couples are encouraged by the commission to register.
The commission also announced its selection of *"From Every End of This Earth" by Steven V. Roberts as its reading for its June .

"This is the in what we hope to be a series that are aimed at bringing community members together to talk about issues," Darsow said. "We hope to bring a diverse group of residents together to discuss questions about immigration, especially as they pertain to Richfield."

Editor's Note: Two changes have been made to this article. The June book club reading is "From Every End of This Earth," not "Every End of the Earth." Also, while the new Richfield City Hall is expected to open in mid-May 2011, where commission meetings are typically held, the next commission meeting will be held at the community center.
