Richfield Runners Prepare for Roy Griak Invitational

The Richfield girls cross-country team will compete against dozens of other teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Iowa.

The will compete at the 26th annual Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course on Saturday in St. Paul.

The Griak, one of the state’s most recognizable cross country events, will host high school and collegiate teams throughout the day. Richfield will compete in the high school maroon division, with the girls race starting at 4:30 p.m.

The 5-kilometer race will feature approximately 50 teams. The girls maroon race will have 23 teams from Minnesota, as well as programs from Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota.

The event begins at 9 a.m. with college races running through 1:10 p.m. NCAA men’s and women’s Division I, II and III races make up the morning, and high school races make up the afternoon.

The high school gold boys race takes place at 2 p.m. with the girls gold race following at 2:50 p.m. Approximately 50 more teams will compete in each of the gold races.

Maroon girls awards will be handed out at 5:15 p.m.

The top seven runners on each division’s winning team and the top overall individual runner will receive an award. The top three teams and the top 20 individuals of each division will be recognized.
