Richfield Student Cleans Up Community; Receives Scholarship Award

graudating senior Alexander Gunderson was disappointed to see the amount of litter in many of the city's parks and dedicated his National Honor Society service project to cleaning some of them up.

As a result, Gunderson received a 2012 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship award for his efforts.

With more than 20 parks in town, he drove around the city one night to see which parks needed the most help so he and his team of workers could make the greatest imapct. In the end, he and his team cleaned up seven of the parks.

“I am proud to say that I was able to make a visible difference in my community,” Gunderson said in a press release.  “I hope that through our example, others will step up to the task of cleaning up our parks and keeping them clean.”

Gunderson will be recognized at Comcast reception June 18. He plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College this fall and study English.
