Stars Boys, Girls Advance in Soccer Playoffs

A pair of playoff victories for the soccer teams highlighted the mid-week athletic calendar, as both the Stars boys and girls squads advanced to the sectional semifinals.

Holy Angels Girls Soccer

Five different scorers contributed to the third-seeded 's 5-0 defeat of No. 6 DeLaSalle in the Section 3A quarterfinals on Thursday evening.

It was likely the final home game of the season for the Stars and the squad spread around the scoring as Shannon McQuillan, Claire Coulter, Therese Wichmann, Bridget Schoffman and Megan Mulrooney all earned a tally, with goalkeeper Danielle Mendez notching five saves for the shutout.

Holy Angels plays at No. 2 seed St. Paul Academy in a 1 p.m. semifinal game on Saturday.

Holy Angels Boys Soccer

The third-seeded escaped with a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Minnehaha Academy on Thursday night to advance to the Section 3A quarterfinals.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Stars host seventh-seeded Minneapolis Washburn at 7 p.m. Saturday night in the sectional semifinals. The Millers upset second-seeded DeLaSalle 2-1 on Thursday.

Holy Angels Volleyball

A 3-1 loss at Northfield dropped the to 8-13 overall and 1-5 in the Missota Conference this season.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Stars play in the Benilde-St. Margaret's Tournament on Saturday, then close out the regular season at home versus Chaska on Monday night.

Richfield Volleyball

Back-to-back 3-0 losses, including Thursday's shutout at Hill-Murray, dropped the to 10-11 overall and 6-7 in the Classic Suburban Conference.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Spartans play in the Eastview Tournament this weekend, then conclude the regular season versus Simley at home on Tuesday night.

Results from a scheduled Richfield girls swimming and diving meet on Thursday were not reported.
