Roseville Hockey Registration is Just Around the Corner
Hockey registration is close at hand and parent and hockey dad Mike Murphy lists the common misconceptions about youth hockey. In upcoming blogs, Mike will dispel them all!

Days are getting shorter, the leaves are beginning to turn and the State Fair is here. All signs that summer are coming to a conclusion and that winter will soon be here.
There is no stronger signal of the impending six month cold snap than hockey season.
The Roseville Area Hockey Association will be holding its annual registration on Sunday Sept. 9th from 11a.m. to 3 p.m.m and Monday Sept. 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.m. The event will happen in the Olympic Room of the Roseville Ice Arena. Forms and more detailed information can be found at www.rosevillehockey.org.

In my time on the board I have been fortunate enough to watch kids go through the entire system, enjoying every minute of their time. From wobbly mites not quite big enough to carry their own bag, to confident young men and women that are lifelong hockey players. There is little in life quite as rewarding as introducing a kid to something they will love for the rest of their lives.
As a board member, and as a parent that has always been approachable, I get asked a lot of questions about hockey – “Why should their kid sign up, what is the cost” etc.

From all of the questions I have been asked, I found that there is one consistent – there is a lot of misinformation about youth hockey. Below are the top 10 myths of youth hockey. Over the next couple of weeks leading up to registration I will cover every one of these myths, dispelling them for the reader.
Hockey is a great sport. Don’t let bad information keep you from enjoying it!
Top 10 myths about kids and youth hockey
- Hockey is too expensive.
- Hockey parents are crazy. Why would I want to be a part of that????
- My kid is too old to learn. Everyone in hockey starts at age 4.
- We do not have the time for hockey, and I do not want to be at a 4 a.m. practice!
- My kid will get hurt.
- My kid is already in one sport and needs to specialize
- My kid has weak ankles and can’t skate.
- My kid is not very good, and will never skate as the good players get all the ice time.
- I will have to drive all over the state. And where the heck is Roseau anyway?
- My kid does not know how to skate. Maybe after we send him/her to lessons we will be ready.
