Northwestern College hosts the Minnesota College Republicans State Convention
Minnesota College Republicans elected new leadership at Northwestern College to prepare for the 2014 campaign.

The Minnesota College Republicans (MNCRs) hosted their annual State Convention on Saturday, April 20th at Northwestern College. 150 delegates of colleges from all around the state were present to elect the next chairman and executive board of the organization. There were two candidates for chairman, Danny Surman of Macalester College and Andrew Hasek of the University of Saint Thomas. Both Danny and Andrew ran with a ticket of other candidates for the positions of Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice Chair of the North, Metro, and South regions. The event garnered a great deal of interest because both campaigns turned out very passionate people for their cause. Though the politics between the candidates did not differ greatly, debate was sparked over each candidate's plan to grow the MNCRs over the next year. After giving their final addresses before the convention, the delegates elected Andrew Hasek as the 2013-2014 Chair of the Minnesota College Republicans. The other candidates elected included:
Co-Chair: Rachel Jansen, University of Minnesota
Secretary: Emily Sir, Northwestern College
Treasurer: Drew Christensen, University of Minnesota
Vice Chair North: Anna Wilson, Minnesota State University Moorehead
Vice Chair Metro: Jacob Schneider, Bethel University
Vice Chair South: Aly Eichman, St. Olaf College
As the new chairman, Andrew Hasek was able to nominate an Executive Director, and he nominated his sister Angie Hasek also of the University of Saint Thomas. The duo have been a huge force for the Republican Party of Minnesota this past year turning out many volunteers during the 2012 campaign.
The rest of the convention was big a success, as it boasted a great slate of speakers from Congressman Erik Paulsen, Mill Fleet Farm VP Stewart Mills, and 2014 gubernatorial candidate Scott Honour. Each College Republican enjoyed the day engaging in political activism.
