Brazilian Festa de Sao Joao (Festival of St. John)
Brazilian music, dancing and martial arts!
Sure, they’re getting ready for the Olympics next year down there in Brazil, but here in Roseville, right now, on Sunday, June 21, 4:00-8:00 pm, we have the Brazilian Festa de São João! This “Festival of St. John” is part of the Performance in the Park: Live @ The Rog, Global Adventure Series of free concerts in Roseville’s Central Park. The Festa de São João includes demonstrations of Afro-Brazilian martial arts by Omulu Capoeira of MN, musical performances by Batucada do Norte (Brazilian percussion) and Beira Mar Brasil (a 9-piece Carnival band), plus a group session of Brazilian dance instruction. The full schedule can be found at www.CityofRoseville.com/LiveRog. So bring your lawn chairs or blankets or snag a park bench and enjoy this great event! The Rog, a.k.a. the Frank Rog Amphitheatre, is in Roseville’s Central Park, 2540 Lexington Avenue N., Roseville, MN 55113.
We thank Robert Everest, local world music afficiando, who helped put together the Festa de São João. The Performances in the Park: Live @ The Rog series is presented by Johnston Martineau, Attorneys at Law, with additional funding provided in part by the Friends of Roseville Parks and the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
