How to use a Coin to Measure Tread Depth

In Minnesota and most states it is illegal to have less than 2/32″ of remaining tread depth.  It is very important that you are checking your tires to make sure they have adequate tread left. Here is how to use a coin as a substitute for a tire gauge.

1. Get a penny.

2. Place the penny into the tread groves across the tire.

3. If the top of Lincoln’s head is showing, you have less than 2/32″ of tread depth.  

If you have less than 2/32″ of tread left it is very important to replace your tires.  Tires help your vehicle stop, especially in the extreme weather that Minnesota is known to have.
