MVHS Essay Contest

Right now the students of Minnesota Virtual High School has a student essay contest going on right now. The students were asked Why I Attend Minnesota Virtual High School? Here is an excerpt of one students' essay.

This is my first year attending MVHS as well as my final. Many of my friends questioned why I chose to finish high school online when one's senior year is supposed to be the best one of them all. My answer has generally been that I am simply looking for a new experience. Traditional schooling has never really clicked with me as far as the academic part of it goes. I have always been very caught up in the social aspects of school and that caused my grades to slip and give me a general lack of motivation towards excelling in my work. I am hoping that MVHS will allow me to separate my social and academic lives and I will be able to thrive in both as a result of that. I was initially attracted to this option because of the flexibility, not only with the schedule but the rigor and ability to seek out help. It gives you a lot of independence and I believe this will help me in the next years of my life where I will be exploring this world and the opportunities it has for me.
