There isn't any way without examining your tooth to see what the situation is. The decision to get a dental crown is a combination of what the dentist feels you need and if you want it. It may end up that you need just a filling or nothing at all. The dentist needs to evaluate the root of your tooth, the gums and the remains of the tooth structure to see if they will provide enough support to hold the dental crown.
Are Dental Crowns Permanent?
Are dental crowns permanent or can crowns fall out? Yes, they can fall out and here are some important things to know if it does happen. Crowns are not glued into place; they are kept in place by mechanical retention. Glue is toxic and it can harm your teeth. Since your teeth are moist, glue doesn't usually stick. Don't try to glue it back in yourself as it might fall out again and this time you might swallow it. See a dentist as soon as possible and let the dentist put it back into place for you. If you wait too long the crown may not fit as the teeth around it may have moved and the crown will no longer fit there. The crown if made properly will stay on itself and the cement just keeps the bacteria from inside the saliva from seeping in and causing the teeth to deteriorate.
Should Dental Crowns Be Replaced?
There is no need to remove a crown if it is in good shape, they are meant to be fixed to your teeth. They can last a lifetime, but there is no guarantee. What makes them last is good oral hygiene. If dental crown become loose you need to be careful as it indicates there is a problem with this crown. It is very important to have a dental cleaning every 6 months when you have a crown, as it will prevent decay between the tooth and the crown. This is the major cause of failure of this procedure.
