Strive for progress , not perfection !

Getting to the next level requires patience and consistency. It does not require negative self-talk nor lofty goals .Yet some of my new running buddies are already giving themselves a hard time about not doing more, not running enough. Injuries and scheduling conflicts have derailed a few of us. Remember where you were three weeks ago and I bet you are better and stronger. You tried a new program and you are showing up. Despite being a busy group of women I have not seen the attendance drop down as it tends to do after the first week. That is progress!

My newest tool to stay on task is to make a mini goal each week. Last week was to stick to the workout schedule I wanted to stick to. Life happens and by Thursday evening I really just wanted that extra hour at home with the kids but I went to Zumba as planned. Turns out the kids enjoyed my company much more after I did my shaking and shimmying. The extra bonus is that running was easier this morning because I stuck to my cross training schedule. I say that like I’m some fitness nut but I really just did some Tabata moves at home and went to two Zumba classes.

Tabata training.org has good information as well as videos.  If you haven’t tried Zumba it is something to consider. It can be as low or high impact as you want. Tuesday’s class kicked my booty so that by the Thursday class I was just slowly shaking it. Zumba really helps you engage your core. Rumor is I may have a core but the jury is still out on that.

As I look at this upcoming week I am allowing for interruptions such as homework and a friend’s birthday celebration. It does get easier fitting in that one hour a day the more I do it. Try to find that time just for your workouts ( if  you are like  my friends Kelly G or Michele D, look for 15mins  :o)

Just spend more time going forward and giving yourself less grief about what you’re not doing.
