I was diving into the trash bin recently wondering what madness possessed me to shoot my W-2s there. Couldn't I look far enough ahead to realize I might need that information, if not today, perhaps later, say around April 15?
What was I thinking?
Did I not recall previous safaris? Over the years my GPS has located a number of valuable inattentively put in the trash. Among them: a pair of contacts, a retainer, a reconsidered love letter, pattern instructions to a Sailor Moon costume and dollar bills.
My laundry has yielded similar results only cleaner.
Of course one must consider the nature of the trash; we all have our standards. I'll plunge into pizza boxes but not coffee grounds.
Which is why the recycling bin is now my first stop in the trashing cycle. After all, something might be valuable later, and it's healthier to paw into the recycling bin than the trash can.
