Saint Paul Elects First African-American Mayor
Melvin Carter was elected with more than 50 percent of the first-choice votes.

SAINT PAUL, MN — History was made in Saint Paul Tuesday as Melvin Carter became the first African-American to be elected mayor. With all precincts reporting, Carter was elected with more than 50 percent of the first-choice votes.
Carter previously worked on the Saint Paul City Council and in Mayor Chris Coleman's Office. He was most recently a staffer for Gov. Mark Dayton.
