St. Paul School Bus Stops Will Now Serve As Meal Pickup Sites

SAINT PAUL, MN — With classes canceled in order to reduce the spread of the new coronavirus, St. Paul Public Schools are using their school bus routes as meal pickup locations for students. The meals will be delivered starting Wednesday.

"Parents are asked to accompany children, and each child will be provided a 1-week supply of meals," the St. Paul School District states.

"Bus stops will be scheduled each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. School bus drivers will be following their normal morning routes and making their normal bus stops and times on their designated day. Please refer to the daily schedule below. All families are welcome to meet the bus at their regular bus stop to receive meals."

While many schools across Minnesota have already closed their doors, all public schools are required to end classes Tuesday.

Executive Order 20-02 requires schools to provide care for elementary-age children of health care professionals, first responders, and other emergency workers during previously planned school days to ensure Minnesota's first line of defense against COVID-19 can stay on the job.

The Executive Order also makes provisions for the continuity of mental health services and requires schools to continue providing meals to students in need, according to a news release.
