South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC) in partnership with Bethany Lutheran College and the Betsy-Tacy Society will host the 2012 Young Writers & Artists Conference (YWAC).
Students grades 3-6 may attend on March 6 or March 7. Students in grades 7-9 may attend on March 7. Students must be accompanied by adult chaperones. The event will be held at Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, MN from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Peter Bloedel, a theater professor at Bethany Lutheran College will keynote for grades 3-6 each day. The keynote presentation for students in grades 7-9 will be by Jonathan Friesen, an author of young adult novels. Students will then explore a variety of subjects related to writing and creative arts. YWAC utilizes a number of authors, artists, educators, experienced writers and business leaders as conference facilitators. These local and regional talents inspire youth and encourage them to take their own talents to new levels. Session topics may include, but are not limited to: poetry, fiction writing, character and plot development, illustration/cartooning, theater art, origami, humor and more!

A book fair, courtesy of The Book Shelf, features books from the conference presenters as well as other popular titles. This is an incredible opportunity for students to get their books signed by authors they meet during lunch or in their sessions.
YWAC offers area students educational opportunities they might not be afforded in the classroom in addition to exposure to authors and artists that schools might not be able to bring to their own sites.
