Scott County Historical Society Receives Minnesota Legacy Grant

The Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant will allow the SCHS to securely store historical items that are currently stored on shelving units.

(The following is a news release from the Scott County Historical Society.)

The Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) was awarded a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant in the amount of $6,171 from the Minnesota Historical Society in support of the SCHS Oversize Storage/Rehousing Project.

The Scott County Historical Society’s collection is diverse and constantly rowing. Currently nearly 150 items are stored in the available drawers of the flat file cases owned by the society.

Due to lack of space, the society is forced to store about 350 oversized flat objects on shelving units in open areas, rolled and placed inside filing cabinets or stacked on top of a lidless mapcase. None of these options are good and they subject artifacts to potentially damaging elements such as light and dust.

The addition of three new secure flat file storage units will ensure that large archival items are stored properly for future generations. These new cases will help further the SCHS mission to search, save and share the history and cultural heritage of Scott County.

Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants are made possible by the Minnesota Legislature from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund created with passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution in November 2008. The grants are awarded to support projects of enduring value for the cause of history and historic preservation across the state.
