The City Council awarded a contract to Confluence in the amount of $96,040 to conduct an architectural history and archaeological survey and to develop plans for the former Sweeney Marina property. The city recently purchased the property east of Huber Park with the intention of developing it into a future park. The survey will include an archaeological survey, an assessment of the historic Schroeder House and outbuildings to prepare it for a National Register of Historic Places nomination. Council approves plans and orders bids for trail projects

The City Council approved plans and ordered the advertisement for bids for the 2020 Trail Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project. The projects include reclaiming and reconstructing the bituminous trail surface and constructing ADA-compliant pedestrian curb ramps and miscellaneous restoration for:

  • Vierling Drive from east of Taylor Street to Presidential Lane
  • Independence Drive from 17th Avenue to Thrush Street
  • Trails within the northwest corner of Tahpah Park

City approves license agreement with Xcel Energy

The City Council approved a license agreement with Xcel Energy for use of its property to develop a mountain bike park adjacent to Quarry Lake Park. The city plans to partner with the Shakopee School District to create a three- to four-mile mountain bike course. The school district received financial support from Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to build a trail for use by the Shakopee Mountain Bike Team. The trail would be available for public use. Council approves annual pavement maintenance projects

The City Council authorized the city’s portion of the 2020 South Metro Joint Powers Agreement contract in the amount of $599,700. The agreement includes the Shakopee’s annual roadway sealcoat, crack sealing, pavement marking work and a portion of the 2020 Pavement Rehabilitation Project. Council adopts state building code

The City Council adopted the 2020 Minnesota Building Codes, effective April 1, 2020. All new construction and renovations as of this date must meet the new codes. More information: Michael Kerski, Director of Planning and Development, 952-233-9346.

Council sets public hearing for St. Francis conduit bonds

The City Council set a public hearing for May 5, 2020, for the issuance of up to $25 million in conduit bonds to finance the construction and equipping of St. Francis Regional Medical Center’s proposed expansion project. The proposed conduit bonds set no obligation for the city and will not have any impact on the city’s credit rating. St. Francis is proposing to expand its emergency department and cancer treatment facility, as well as purchase additional capital. More information: Nathan Reinhardt, Finance Director, 952-233-9326.
