Farmers Union Agency Earns Make More Happen™ Award for Supporting The Open Door

Liberty Mutual has officially awarded Farmers Union Agency (FUA) a 2026 Make More Happen™ Award for its partnership with The Open Door, Dakota County’s largest hunger relief organization dedicated to ensuring access to healthy food for all. The donation will help expand food access through pantry services, mobile food sites, and summer meal programs ensuring families can access healthy meals where they live and work, while also allowing The Open Door to respond quickly during emergencies or spikes in demand.
Initially, Farmers Union Agency received a $5,000 donation through the Liberty Mutual® 2026 Make More Happen™ Awards program for its partnership with The Open Door. After the story was featured on the official Make More Happen microsite at https://www.agentgiving.com/farmers-union-agency/, the community rallied with over 750 votes and comments—triggering a matching donation and bringing the total to $10,000.
When hunger threatens a family’s stability, The Open Door responds with fresh food, dignity, and neighbor-to-neighbor care. Its mission to ensure no one goes hungry in Dakota County strongly aligns with Farmers Union Agency’s commitment to protecting and supporting communities.
“As an insurance agency dedicated to protecting people, Farmers Union Agency sees fighting hunger as part of that mission. Food security is fundamental, so when families don’t know where their next meal is coming from, education, health, and financial stability all suffer,” says Josh Vickerman, President, Farmers Union Agency. “Like us, The Open Door believes in neighbors helping neighbors, and we’re proud to be part of that effort.”
Farmers Union Agency actively supports The Open Door through volunteerism, donations, and community engagement. Most recently, the agency assembled more than 400 snack bags and collected nearly 2,000 pounds of food and household essentials, an amount comparable to what the entire city typically contributes. To further support the effort, FUA also donated $2,500, reinforcing its commitment to addressing food insecurity in the communities it serves.
For the FUA team, the impact of their efforts became especially meaningful when delivering donations directly to The Open Door, seeing firsthand how contributions translate into meals and support for local families.
“Recognizing independent agents’ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards are all about,” said Beth Snyder-Jones, Senior Territory Manager, Liberty Mutual Insurance. “Farmers Union Agency’s partnership with The Open Door highlights the powerful role local businesses can play in addressing critical needs like hunger in their communities.”
Throughout 2026, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 36 independent agencies nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $360,000 to nonprofits they support. Agencies become eligible for the award by submitting applications that highlight their commitment to a specific cause.
