Air Quality Alert Issued For Ozone Pollution In Twin Cities
Ozone concentrations will be the lowest in the morning hours Tuesday and will gradually rise through the afternoon.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for ozone pollution in the Twin Cities metro and south-central Minnesota. Air quality is expected to worsen Tuesday to unhealthy levels.
Winds will bring high levels of pollutants from the south. Sunny skies and hot temperatures will combine to cause an increase in ground-level ozone.
Air quality index (AQI) values are expected to climb into the low 100s Tuesday in the metro. This is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, children and older adults, and people who are active outdoors should limit prolonged exertion.

Twin Cities Heat Advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
High temperatures in the mid 90s will combine with high humidity to yield peak heat indices in the mid to upper 90s today. Heat illnesses are possible for those active outdoors or those susceptible to heat illnesses, such as children and the elderly.

Take extra precautions
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, OSHA recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
