Armatage Puts 'Kids On Broadway'

It's been a lot of hard work but students are finally going on Broadway.

In their own musical, that is, called "Kids On Broadway!"

The revue, which had its first performances Thursday and wraps up on Friday, samples numbers from nine different shows, including "Aladin," "The Lion King," and "Rent." 

“It's unbelievable if you haven’t seen it," co-director Julie Flaskamp exclaimed when Patch reached her shortly after the show's first performance. 

Flaskamp, the parent of an Armatage student, worked with fourth and fifth grade teacher Staci Owens to put the show together with the help of many parent volunteers and student actors.

"We've calculated it out, and it's taken something like 1,000 (man-)hours to produce," she said. "I've been completely exhausted."

"It's been great to work with these little guys," she said. "Every day, it's been little baby steps watching them getting better and better. Then when they hit they show and they nail it, they’re glowing, their energy is through the roof!"
