Big Snowstorm On Tap For Monday, Tuesday: MN Weather

Following spring-like weather Sunday, temperatures will drop and the Twin Cities metro area will see two rounds of snow.

TWIN CITIES, MN— Between 4 and 9 inches of snow could fall in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro by Tuesday night.

"For the first wave of the upcoming winter storm the heaviest snow will fall across central Minnesota with lighter totals to the south," the National Weather Service said. "Some wintry mix or freezing drizzle will also be possible Monday morning in south central Minnesota."

"The next wave of snow on Tuesday will be more widespread across the region," the NWS continued. "Temperatures will also fall as the snow comes to an end with below zero lows Tuesday night and wind chills as low as 25 below zero."

Following Sunday's warm and sunny weather, temperatures will drop and a snow system will arrive Monday night.

Monday: Snow. High near 19. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Monday Night: Snow. Low around 9. North northeast wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Patchy blowing snow before noon. High near 12. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches possible.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -2. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 9. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -1. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Thursday: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 13. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -3. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
