'Boogaloo Bois' Member Shot At Minneapolis Police Building: Feds

Police say a Texas man belonging to the "Boogaloo Bois" group was involved in criminal activity during the civil unrest in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Federal authorities have charged another self-described member of the "Boogaloo Bois" group in connection with activity they say took place during the civil unrest in Minneapolis this summer.

According to U.S. Department of Justice, the Boogaloo Bois is a "loosely connected group of individuals who espouse violent anti-government sentiments." The Southern Poverty Law Center says members of the "anti-government extremist movement group" show up to protests heavily armed and while wearing Hawaiian shirts.

"Boogaloo" refers to what is described as an impending second civil war in the U.S. that will involve violent uprisings against the government, according to the FBI.

Ivan H. Hunter, 26, of Boerne, Texas, faces one count of riot. Hunter traveled from Texas to Minnesota between May 27 and May 28, federal authorities said, just days after the killing of George Floyd.

On the night of May 28, Hunter fired 13 rounds from an AK-47-style semiautomatic rifle into the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct building, according to the criminal complaint.

During the shooting, "looters" were still inside the building, the complaint continues. At the scene, police found rifle casings belonging to an AK-47-style firearm.

Hunter later posted on social media about his activities in Minneapolis, police said.

On June 3 in Texas, officers from the Austin Police Department said they stopped a pickup truck for traffic violations. Hunter was one of three people inside the truck, according to investigators.

Police said Hunter had six loaded magazines for an AK-47-style assault rifle affixed to a tactical vest he was wearing. Officers also found three semi-automatic rifles on the rear seat of the truck, one loaded pistol in plain view next to the driver’s seat, and another loaded pistol in the center console, according to the complaint.

Several days after the traffic stop, federal agents said they learned of Hunter's online affiliation with Boogaloo Bois member Steven Carrillo. Carrillo was charged in the May 29 killing of a federal officer in Oakland, California.

In September, two other members of the Boogaloo Bois were charged in Minneapolis.

Michael Robert Solomon, 30, of New Brighton and Benjamin Ryan Teeter, 22, of North Carolina each face one count of conspiring to provide material support to foreign terrorists.

According to U.S Attorney Erica MacDonald, Solomon and Teeter "believed their anti-U.S. government views aligned with those of Hamas" and they "actively developed plans to carry out violence in Minnesota and elsewhere."
